The Mater Dei High School science faculty will conduct “Science Camp 2012” for students currently in 5th and 6th grade. The camp runs for two mornings, May 24 and 25, from 8:45–11:30 a.m. at Mater Dei High School and will allow students to enjoy working in the physics, chemistry and biology labs with the Mater Dei faculty and volunteer high school students. Camp students will perform lab activities using many of the same concepts (and equipment) taught to the high school students. Goals of the camp include allowing the students to have fun doing science experimentation in an attempt to learn science concepts.

 

This is the fourth year for the summer science camp. The cost is $40. To download the registration form, click on the following link:

Congratulations to the Mater Dei Supermileage Team for winning first place in four different categories at the Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition in Houston, Texas.

The Mater Dei team achieved a best run of 2,188.6 miles per gallon in the Prototype class, Gasoline category, a best run in the Urban Concept class, Gasoline category, with a run of 611 miles per gallon, and they also achieved the highest mileage in Prototype, Battery Electric, and Prototype, Alternative Gasoline.

 

The newspaper staff competed against local high schools at the USI Media Day and won BEST OVERALL NEWSPAPER!  They also won Best Newspaper Design, and senior Erin Wildeman won Best Feature Photo for a photo she submitted from "Free Hug Day" last year. 

The student newspaper, Wildcats Hi-Lights, that is produced by the Journalism students can be accessed from the Mater Dei website: Publications, Wildcats Hi-Lights.

 

Congratulations to all the band solo and ensemble performers this past weekend.  Every band student participated in this event, and each of the MD students worked hard and performed very well.  

Ryan Holm on Trumpet and Kasey Wargel on Bari Sax received a Gold Rating on their Division 1 solo; Mitch Meeks, Jacob Vanbibber, Amanda McCandless and Nathan Werner received a Gold Rating on their Percussion Ensemble; and Alex Schmitt, Tamarea Kramer, Sarah Martin, Katarina Nash received a Gold Rating on their Flute Quartet.  Well done to all our fine MD Musicians!
