Dear Parents and Students,
I am pleased to report a
smooth transition to the second semester.
On the first day of school we celebrated Epiphany with an all-school
prayer service. The prayer service was led
by Fr. Ken Steckler and music was provided by members of the choir.
We celebrated Catholic
Schools Week from January 28-February 1.
During this week, I hope you were able spend a few moments in
thanksgiving for all that Catholic schools have done to enrich your lives. I have been extremely blessed by the men and
women that have served the Catholic schools I have attended and where I have
worked. Mater Dei strives to provide the
highest quality education available in the Catholic tradition that develops
students for Christian service.
We were pleased to welcome
Bishop Gettelfinger for our Catholic Schools Week mass. We are thankful to have a Bishop so supportive
of our schools. At this mass we
announced that Fr. Ken Steckler will be leaving for a sabbatical at the end of
March for six months. He will resign
from his duty as chaplain of Mater Dei High School at that time to focus more
on his parishes. We are extremely
grateful for the years of service that Fr. Ken has provided to our school. We wish him all the best in his sabbatical
and reassignment!
Our teachers received new
Hewlett Packard laptops this month.
These computers enable our teachers to provide high quality technology
instruction in their classrooms and manage their grades and other
responsibilities. We thank the donors to
the Capital Campaign for helping with this purchase.
Scheduling for next year’s
classes will begin this month. I
encourage parents to spend time with their students to look at the different
options available. Mater Dei offers many
Advanced Placement and Dual Credit Courses that enable students to earn college
credits. Some of our students are able
to graduate with a semester or more of college credits at a very low price. Contact Mrs. Quinlin or Mrs. Reneer with
questions regarding schedules.
Enclosed in this newsletter
is a letter from the Evansville Catholic Interparochial High School Board providing
an update on the principal search for Mater Dei. We appreciate their efforts to keep our community
informed of their progress.
I wish you all the best this
month and appreciate the opportunity to serve this great school as
principal.
In Christ’s Peace
