Challenges & Changes

Dear Parents and Students,

I am honored to be selected as principal at Mater Dei High School.  I appreciate your support this year and confidence that I am the right individual for the position.  Thank you to the Board members who attended the school assembly and have expressed congratulations.  I ask for your continued prayers as I move forward as principal.

Congratulations to the Mater Dei Efficiency Car Team for their successful finish at the Shell Eco-marathon Competition.  Their two cars placed 1st and 3rd out of thirty teams, including 23 universities.  The winning team was awarded $10,000.  They have been contacted by Jay Leno to fly to California for a taping.  Special recognition goes to sponsors Bob Neisen, Dan Ritter, and Bob Schleter.

It is with great sadness that I report the resignation of Sr. Donna Marie Herr from Mater Dei effective at the end of the school year.  For 38 years, Sr. Donna has been a faithful servant of our Mother’s school.  She is an outstanding Christian role model and truly exemplifies the spirit of humility.  She is an excellent colleague and friend to the faculty and staff.  Her presence at numerous athletic and extracurricular events has become a staple of the community.  I cannot think of a person more supportive of the mission of Mater Dei High School.  She has accepted a position as Director of the St. Vincent’s Food Bank.  Please join me in wishing Sr. Donna well in her new position.

We began advertising for a new position last week.  The job will be a combined campus ministry and religion faculty (three classes) position.  Many Catholic high schools have a full-time campus minister that oversees their entire spirituality program.  This person would help coordinate liturgies, retreats, service opportunities, mission trips, provide pastoral counseling, and perform other duties as necessary.  Please join me in prayer as we search for the right person for this extremely important position.

The Music Program presented a Stage Show titled “The Decades” on March 14 and April 11.  The performance combined the talents of the band, choir, dance team, and color guard.  Almost 800 people attended these programs.  Special thanks to directors Alex Smith, Nancy Mills, Leslie Goth, Ashley Kiesel, Jon Kern, and Kendra Allen for their help with the production.

It is hard to believe that we are in the last month of school.  Thank you for making this an excellent school year at Mater Dei High School.  Congratulations to our seniors on their upcoming graduation.

God Bless,
