Dear Parents and Students,

I want to thank everyone for a wonderful school year at Mater Dei High School.  It has been my privilege to serve as principal of this wonderful and vibrant Catholic community.  The last few weeks have been extremely busy at Mater Dei.

On May 2 the school celebrated with a May Day mass and festivities.  Fr. Alex Zenthoefer, Class of ’96, presided.  The event was beautiful and paid tribute to the patroness of Mater Dei.  I pray that Our Mother will continue to guide Mater Dei as we move into the next sixty years existence.

The school musical, “The Boy Friend,” was performed May 2-4 in the Kempf Auditorium.  The cast and crew of the show numbered over eighty students.  Over one thousand people attended these excellent displays of our students’ talents.

Sr. Donna Marie Herr and Angie Strehl were nominated for the Diocesan Teacher of the Year award.  This is a great honor to have two members of the faculty nominated for this prestigious award.

On May 15 a mass was celebrated in honor of Sr. Donna leaving Mater Dei after 38 years of service to the school.  This mass was a touching tribute to a very special woman.  Please wish well Sr. Donna well as she becomes the Director of the St. Vincent’s Food Bank.

I am pleased to announce that Greg Schaefer has been hired as our Campus Minister/Religion teacher.  I received many applications and conducted several interviews with extremely qualified individuals.  We felt that Greg had the ability to move the spirituality at Mater Dei forward.  He will begin his Masters degree in theology at St. Meinrad this summer.

Congratulations to Class of 2008!  The talents and accomplishments of this special group of students were apparent during Honors Night on May 14.

This summer will be extremely busy with many projects to improve the campus and facilities.  I will provide more details in the coming months.  I pray that you have a safe and happy summer!

Blessings
