Supermileage Team Champions

The Mater Dei Supermileage Team had another successful year at the Shell Eco-Marathon Americaspast weekend at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, where 56 teams from universities and high schools from across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil competed. The challenge was to design and build a one person vehicle and compete for the highest miles per gallon of fuel.

The Mater Dei Team took 1st place in the inaugural Urban Concept Class, achieving 433 mpg in the vehicle named “The George” (looking very similar to the George Jetson’s car, from the cartoon show The Jetsons).Competing and winning the grand prize in the Urban Concept class allowed the team to bring home $9,000.

In the Prototype class, last years’ victor, Mater Dei’s car the Sixth Gen, obtained 2,083 mpg bringing home the 3rd place award of $1,000. This years’ winner, Laval University of Canada at 2,757 mpg, still leaves Mater Dei holding the America’s record of 2,843 mpg (set in 2008).

Mater Dei now holds the America’s records in the Prototype class and Urban Concept class.

Overall, it was another very successful year for the Mater Dei Supermileage Team pushing the limits on fuel efficiency.

Team Advisors are Mr. Bob Neisen and Mr. Dan Ritter. Mr. Robert Schleter is the Faculty Advisor.
