Scholarship Opportunities
FINANCIAL AID NIGHT will be February 9th at 6:30 p.m.  JoAnn Laugel, Director of Financial Aid at the University of Evansville will be here to provide information on the FAFSA Application and to answer financial aid questions.  Seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend this program.

 

All Seniors should check out Community Foundation Scholarship Awards.  This includes the Lilly Endowment Scholarship due January 31st. You may qualify for scholarships in Vanderburgh County as well as other scholarships if you live outside of Vanderburgh County.  Criteria vary, but most scholarships are designed to recognize student achievements, grades, financial need, or other criteria.  Visit www.alliance9.org  and click on “Scholarship Programs” and “Alliance Members.” 

 

The American Legion College Financial Handbook “Need A Lift?” is available online at www.NeedALift.org.  Indiana scholarships are available at www.indlegion.org.  Additionally, private scholarships sources are listed in Chapter 6 of “Need A Lift?” at http://search.needalift.org/NAL/isysconcept/Private.

 

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program is looking for outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit.  Awards are up to $5000 per year for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.  To qualify, seniors must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.75, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a college within their state of residence, and demonstrate financial need.  Online applications will be available from December 1, 2008 to February 10th, 2009 at www.kfcscholars.org.

 

The Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD)  will award four (4) $500 scholarship toward tuition at an Indiana college or university to seniors who plan to major in health education, physical education, recreation or dance education or allied areas.  Applications are available in the College Room and must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2009.

 

Posey County Community Foundation is accepting applications for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.  Each scholarship provides full tuition for a student to pursue four years of undergraduate study.  It also covers required fees and up to $800 per year for required books.  Applicants must be a resident of Posey County, have a GPA of at least 3.5, minimum SAT score of 1700 or ACT score of at least 25.  Completed applications are due to Mrs. Reneer by January 19, 2009.  Students may learn more about the scholarship by visiting www.poseycommunityfoundation.org and click on “Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program.”

 

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship is available to seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while in high school.  This scholarship awards up to $10,000 per academic year for 4 years to any US college.   To qualify, students must have owned and operated a business for at least 1 year (non-profits are OK).  For more information and to apply online visit www.mckelveyfoundation.org/entrepreneurial/.

 

Erma Ribeyre Greathouse General Scholarship looks for applicants who exhibit high GPA, good moral character, leadership, community service, and reception of honors, in addition to strong ideals and realistic goals.  Please read the directions carefully, as all items must be submitted in order for the application to be considered.  Applicants from nine local high schools will be considered.  The deadline for submission of completed applications and supporting documents is a January 31st postmark.  Applications are available in the College Room.

 

The Ted Hitch Scholarship offered by the Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union will award $2000 scholarships to ten graduating high school seniors.  Seniors must have a minimum GPA of 3.5

and applicants or their parents must be members of ETFCU for at least one year prior to the February 1 application deadline.  Applications are available in the College Room, at all ETFCU branch locations, or online at www.etfcu.org/scholarship

 

Dorothy M. Walters Scholarships for students majoring in education and will provide up to $8000 help with tuition, fees, room, board and books for two years at Vincennes University.  Upon successful completion of these two years, the student will receive a scholarship for two additional years at Vincennes University or another college or university of his/her choice.  Applicants must rank in the top ten percent of their class and be active in high school activities.  Additional information and applications are available in the College Room.  Application deadline is February 2, 2009.

 

Best Teen Chef – Show off your distinctive flair and you could earn the opportunity to compete against some of the country’s finest teenage culinary artists.  The Art Institutes schools award tuition scholarships to the top nine competitors.  Entries must be received by February 6, 2009.  For official rules visit ArtInstitutes.edu/BTC.

 

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship will award up to twelve $2000 scholarships to seniors who are ambitious, demonstrates drive, determination, and ability to succeed to college and who have respect for self, family, and community.  Go to www.axa-achievement.com to learn more about the program and download an application.  Apply by February 15th.

 

U.S. Bank’s Internet Scholarship Program will award up to thirty $1000 scholarships to seniors planning to attend two- or four-year colleges full time next year.  Recipients are selected through a random drawing process.  Online applications will be accepted from October, 2008 through February, 2009 at www.usbank.com/studentbanking.

 

Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship is awarded to the direct descendants of graduates of the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing.  Preference is given to applicants who are entering their first year of schooling in the pursuance of a Nursing License.  Applications are available in the College Room and the deadline for acceptance is March 13, 2009.

 

USI Alumni Association Leadership Award will award $1000 for the 2009-2010 USI academic year.  Applicants must be in the upper 20% of their graduating class and show extensive leadership qualities.  Applications require two letters of recommendation and a short essay.  Applications are available in the College Room and must be submitted by March 30, 2009.

 

Tri Kappa Epsilon Theta Chapter will award one $700 scholarship to a local graduating senior who will be enrolling in college in the fall.  Applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 to 3.99 and are evaluated on the basis of class standing, financial need, strength of high school course study, activities, and honors.  Applications must include a person statement of his/her goals and at least one letter of recommendation.  Completed applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2009.  Applications are in the College Room.

 

Casino Aztar Project 21 Scholarship Program is designed to communicate the consequences associated with under aged gambling.  Students may submit Posters, Essays, and/or Videos.  Three $1000 scholarships will be awarded to the finalists.  Applications are now available in the College Room and must be submitted with the essay, poster, or video by May 8, 2009.  Please note additional earlier deadlines for the essays, posters, and videos at the bottom of the application.

 

Eastern Kentucky University Spotlight Days will be held on Saturday, December 6th.  During the Spotlight program, prospective students and their families will visit an academic and Student Services

IUPUI  Jag Day is a one-day campus visit experience designed to introduce prospective students to specific academic programs, the IUPUI campus, and community life in downtown Indianapolis.  JagDays are designed for high school students and their parents or guardians. USI Hospitality Day program is designed to give you the necessary information to help with the college decision making process and includes a tour of the campus, lunch, and housing tours.  Hospitality Days are scheduled on Saturday, February 7 and February 28.  To sign up for a Southern Hospitality Day, you can register online at www.usi.edu/admissn/visit.asp or call the Office of Admission at (812) 464-1765.

 

Western Kentucky University offers one Saturday tour per month during the academic year (September through April). Saturday tours are at 10:00 a.m. CST and include an information session conducted by an Admissions Counselor.
